I've been thinking about this type of thing for a few weeks now, and I feel like I need some viewer input. Should I do paid commissions?

It's a really really competitive market, no harm in trying but I don't think it'll work out for you right now
i suggest no. ur art wont get a lot of attention, especially with the more professional artists existing in the commisions area. i suggest you improve more before you decide to do the comissions
"What the other two already said."
What you 'could' do would be to look up tutorials on perspective, lighting and shadows, as well as anatomy in order to improve and then ask again in a year or two.
I did open a commission in my early year of art, and... I regret it really
You better need to improve more before joining the competitive art
